"I'm not really a hat person!"

Today, we are fortunate as this era does not insist on wearing a hat for each and every occasion, we have the freedom to choose if a hat is suitable attire for the event and if we choose not to wear one, we are not classed as an outcast.  Imagine a Victorian or Edwardian lady venturing out of the house without a hat, or even the most rebelious twenties flapper girl without some form of headwear, it just would not have happened so.  We can look great in a hat or fascinator provided we recognise what suits us and what we feel comfortable in.  

There are hats or fascinators to suit all shapes of face and depending on your hair style, colouring and preference the following basic tips may help you in your choice - we may not have to wear one everyday but when we do, we will look absolutely amazing if we get it right......

Square Faces

You will look wonderful wearing brimmed hats particularly when worn at an angle or wearing the brim asymmetrical.  Fascinators can be worn towards the side of the face and by experimenting you will find the perfect look.

Narrow Faces

Brimmed and full hats will look magnificent on you which are perfect for weddings and the races.  Try to avoid tall narrow hats and choose those with large and small brims depending on your taste. If you prefer something smaller, experiment  with fascinators.

Wide Faces

You can carry 'off the face' styles which are particularly popular at the moment, Bretons or pillbox hats worn on the back of the head should all suit you.  Alternatively a fascinator worn to the back of the head will also look fabulous. 

Round Face

You will look so striking wearing big hats and those with brims worn at an angle - perfect for Ascot!  Choose hats where the crown is wider than your face unless the brim is the most prominent feature. Try to avoid small fez or flowerpot-shaped hats, instead experiment with fascinators or look amazing in a feminine Trilby
